Reminder

Ladies,

This is a reminder that although there are not many of you trying out, until September 2nd, you are still being judged. I am particularly addressing the girls trying out for Varsity, because now is not the time to become over-confident. I understand that you are familiar with us coaches, but we are still judging you and looking at how you act not only toward your fellow ladies trying out, but how you treat the newcomers as well.

Many of you have taken to being rude to the JV girls trying out (ie, yelling at them as opposed to giving constructive criticism) and I personally do not look upon this with approval. You are ALL susceptible to either being cut or being put on JV, and being rude to your possibly future teammates is not constructive, and does not make you look good in comparison.

Please keep this in mind in the upcoming tryout days as well as if and when you do earn a spot on the team.

Tryouts Continued...

Hello Ladies,

Sorry for my tardiness at tryouts, my situation couldn't be helped. But I'd like to thank you guys for hanging in there. Just a reminder, the tryouts will be separated tomorrow as well as for the remainder of tryouts, with JV at 3:30-4:30, and Varsity at 4:30-5:30.

Some pointers:

-Be aggressive! Although you are trying out to be on a team, remember that during tryouts, the girl next to you is your competition. You must make an effort to stand out and go for the ball, don't worry about what others think of you.

-Don't hesitate. If you're having trouble with a drill or have any questions, don't hesitate to ask us to teach you. Some one-on-one help may be the key to your improvement. It will also show us that you are trainable and are willing to learn if you don't understand.

-Gain confidence. All of you have the potential and the ambition, but you need to have confidence in yourselves. Don't think too much about whether or not you'll mess up, because it's a lot better to try and to mess up, rather than to not try at all. Apprehension and doubt are the first things we recognize in working with you, so try to be confident in all your moves.

-Shake it off! This is probably the most important thing. Don't be defeated just because you messed up on the last play, we all make mistakes. The important thing is that you learn from your mistakes, and improve.

Last but not least, DO YOUR BEST! We will be making a cut by the end of this week, so you need to show us that you have skills to go along with all your potential.

Good Luck!

Yay! Tryouts are here!

Hello Everyone,

Well, it has finally come: TRYOUTS.

Tryouts are starting on Monday, August 24th (that's right, the day before school starts)and will be held at the PVHS gym from 3:30-5:30pm. Tryouts will be held until Wednesday, September 2, from 3:30-5:30 all days. However, just because tryouts are for over a week is no excuse for you to not show up on any given day. We will only remember those girls that we see often, so it is imperative that you come on ALL DAYS. Depending on our turnout, we might be splitting the tryout between JV and Varsity, but for the meantime, it will be a cumulative tryout.

You must have your physical to tryout, NO EXCEPTIONS. If you don't have a physical, do not come to tryouts until you do. Likewise, you must have at least a 2.0 GPA from the last Spring semester, or have made up any failing grades in summer school. If you don't make grades, do not bother showing up.

Please come prepared in workout attire, shoes with grip and ankle support, and bring kneepads if you need/have them, and bring water.

We will be working on all kinds of ball handling, including passing, hitting, setting, and serving, so be prepared and come with a positive attitude. It is EXTREMELY important that you are aggressive and assertive, because it is more likely that we will remember you if you stand out. You need to come out strong, because we may be making more than one cut before the end of tryouts.

I would personally like to thank all the girls who have been consistent in coming to conditioning throughout the summer, your work has not gone unnoticed.

I wish you all the best of luck and see you on Monday!

If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to post to the blog or to contact me, Laura Cooper, or Keith Cruz.

Ball Handling Time

Hi Ladies,

As you know, we don't have the PVHS gym, and the CCC director hasn't gotten back to me yet. So, for the time being, we will be practicing in the aerobics room. We will meet at the field first, and then head over to the aerobics room after we've warmed up on the track. This will be from 9am-11am. Thanks again to all of you who have religiously been showing up and showing your dedication.

Gym Time

Hello Ladies,

I know I previously posted that we will be having gym time the week of August 17-21, but at the moment we are unable to produce a definitive time and place due to the fact that our floors are getting redone. I will post the schedule as soon as Ms. Cooper and I get things straighten things out.

Fundraiser: We will be having a Jamba Juice fundraiser on August 21 (Friday) from 12-4pm, and August 23 (Sunday) from 1-5pm. Flyers will be handed out at walk-through and orientation, but to ensure that we make as much funds as possible, we need some volunteers to stand outside of Jamba Juice handing out the flyers to every customer those days/times. We will be revisiting this topic later next week, but I wanted to let you ahead of time.

Don't hesitate to contact me or Ms. Cooper if you have any questions.
